It helps to say which phone you use and, if something looks wrong, to attach a screenshot. Awba has no account, so we never need your password or anything you have recorded.

Common questions

The prayer times differ from my mosque's.

Awba suggests the calculation method most used where you are, but mosques differ. In Settings › Prayer & calendar you can choose the calculation method, the madhhab for Asr and the high-latitude rule. Under Match your mosque you can move any prayer by a few minutes so that it agrees with your mosque's timetable.

A prayer alert didn't arrive, or arrived late.

Open Settings › Notifications. Will your alerts arrive? checks what could stop them, and Send a test alert shows how a prayer alert will reach you.

On iPhone, a Focus or the Scheduled Summary can hold notifications back. Keep Time Sensitive notifications on for Awba in the iPhone's Settings › Notifications › Awba. On Android, allow Awba to use Alarms & reminders.

How do I move to a new phone?

Awba has no account, so your record lives only on your phone. Go to Settings › You and choose Create a backup. This makes a single file; save it to Files, iCloud Drive, or anywhere you can reach from the new phone. On the new phone, install Awba and choose Restore from a backup.

The file holds everything, your private du'as too, and it is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere only you can open.

I lost my phone. Can you restore my data?

We cannot: we never receive what you record, so there is no copy with us. You can restore from a backup file you made, or from your phone's own iCloud or Google backup if it was turned on.

The Hijri date is a day off.

Hijri months begin with the moon sighting, which can differ from the calculated date by a day. Tap the date on the Today screen to move the month to match your local one, or use Hijri adjustment in Settings › Prayer & calendar.

Do I need the internet?

No. Prayer times, the Qibla, the full Qur'an text, the adhkar and your planner all work offline. Only recitations, adhkar audio, the printed mushaf pages and translations come from the internet, and only when you play or download them. Once downloaded, they work offline too.

How do I add a widget?

On iPhone, touch and hold an empty part of the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and choose Awba. Lock Screen widgets are added by touching and holding the Lock Screen and choosing Customize. Awba's controls are added the same way in Control Center.

Does Awba cost anything?

No. Awba is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.

I found a mistake in a text, or have an idea.

Please email us. For a Qur'an or adhkar text, include the surah and ayah, or the Hisn al-Muslim number shown under the dhikr, so we can find it quickly.
