Awba
Privacy policy
Last updated 2 October 2026
Awba is made by Basira. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Awba app and this website.
In short
- Awba has no account, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking.
- What you record in Awba is kept on your phone. We never receive it, and we have no server that could.
- A few features use the internet. Downloading a recitation, for example, means the service that publishes it sees your IP address, and naming your place uses Apple's or Google's location service. Each one is described below.
What stays on your phone
Everything you record or set in Awba is stored in the app's private storage on your phone:
- your prayers and how you logged them, your fasts and the days you have to make up
- the menstruation mode and its dates, if you use it
- habits, tasks, milestones, and your Qur'an reading and khatma progress
- notes and study notes, your du'a and dhikr journals, and your lists of dhikr
- your settings, your saved location and your city
Prayer times, the Qibla direction and the Hijri date are calculated on your phone. Awba's widgets read a copy of what they show from a storage area shared only between the app and its own widgets.
None of this is sent to us or to anyone else.
What leaves your phone, and when
Recitations, audio, mushaf pages and translations
When you play or download a recitation, the audio of a dhikr, the printed mushaf pages, or a translation or tafsir, Awba fetches the files from the services that publish them:
- QuranicAudio (download.quranicaudio.com) and EveryAyah (everyayah.com), for recitations
- Quran.com (api.qurancdn.com and android.quran.com), for the timings that highlight each word, the mushaf pages, and translations and tafsir
- Hisn al-Muslim (hisnmuslim.com), for the audio of the adhkar
These requests carry no account, identifier or personal data. Like any request on the internet, though, they show the service your IP address and which file was asked for, and that service handles them under its own privacy policy. Nothing is fetched until you play or download something.
The name of your place
If you let Awba use your location, it asks your phone's own location service (Apple on iPhone and iPad, Google on Android) for the name of the place at your coordinates, so that it can show you a city name. This happens when you set your location. It also happens when you open Awba more than 50 km from your saved location, so that it can offer to update your prayer times. Apple and Google handle these requests under their own privacy policies.
Your coordinates are never sent to us. If you pick your city from the list instead, Awba does not use your location at all.
What you choose to share
When you share an ayah, a du'a or a card, or save a backup, the share sheet hands it to the app or place you pick. Backup files (.awba) hold everything you have recorded, your private du'as too, and they are not encrypted. Anyone who has the file can read it, so keep it somewhere only you can open.
Your phone's own backups
If iCloud Backup, or Android's backup to Google Drive, is turned on, your phone includes Awba's data in it, as it does for other apps. These backups are kept in your own Apple or Google account, under their terms.
Links you open
A link you saved in a study note opens in your browser. Awba itself sends nothing when you open it.
What Awba does not do
- no account or sign-in
- no analytics or usage statistics
- no crash reporting
- no advertising and no advertising identifier
- no tracking across apps or websites
- no in-app purchases
Because we receive none of your data, we have nothing to sell, share or hand over.
Permissions, and why Awba asks
- Location
- To calculate prayer times for where you are, to point the Qibla compass, and to name your place as described above. Awba asks only for access while you are using the app, never Always. It is optional: you can choose a city instead.
- Notifications
- For the prayer alerts and reminders you choose. They are scheduled on your phone.
- Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint
- To unlock du'as you have marked private. Your phone does the check; Awba never sees your face or fingerprint.
- Photos (add only)
- To save a card you chose to share. Awba cannot see your photo library.
Deleting your data
Deleting Awba removes everything it stored on your phone. Backup files you saved, and your phone's own backups, stay where you put them until you delete them.
Children
Awba is suitable for all ages. It collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
